Estimates and invoicing

Garage estimate software: pricing work with confidence

A good estimate is built from the work already recorded on the job, priced clearly, and easy to revise when the vehicle tells you something new.

Start from the job, not a blank page

If the fault, the vehicle and the intended work are already on the record, the estimate is mostly assembled. Starting from a blank template invites omissions.

Make it readable

Customers approve what they understand. Separate labour and parts, name the work in plain terms, and avoid line items that only make sense internally.

Handling revisions

Strip-down often changes the picture. Revise the estimate, get it approved again, and keep the earlier version on the record so the trail is clear.

Questions

Related questions.

How detailed should an estimate be?

Detailed enough that the customer can see what they are paying for and you can defend it later. More detail than that slows you down.

Should estimates expire?

Parts prices move, so a stated validity period is sensible and avoids awkward conversations weeks later.
